Satyananda Yoga in Class

In a yoga class, Satyananda Yoga emphasizes the development of awareness, training of conscious breathing and a gentle and safe management of the physical body. A typical yoga class usually takes 90 minutes. It starts with a brief meditation, followed by asana and pranayama (physical postures and breathing techniques). The class ends with Satyananda Yoga Nidra or shavasana (deep relaxation) and/or meditation. The practices are usually not demonstrated.

The training of a certified teacher trained in the Satyananda system of Yoga is thorough and time intensive. She/He instructs asana, pranayama, Yoga Nidra, shavasana and meditation in a precise way and according to the individual needs of the student.

He has detailed knowledge of human anatomy to be able to respond in class to students with physical limitations. He has a extensive knowledge of yoga physiology, psychology and philosophy and is able to impart that knowledge to his students.
