About SATYANANDA YOGA®

SATYANANDA YOGA® is an integral, scientifically recognized yoga system. All techniques and methods originate from traditional sources and were explored, adapted and accurately described by Swami Satyananda Saraswati to make them available to the people of our time.

In the past, this kind of knowledge was passed on directly from master to student. Satyananda Yoga is exceptional as it passes on many of the original techniques and merges them into a precisely structured training system. Satyananda Yoga Nidra®, Antar Mouna, the Pawanmuktasana series and Kriya Yoga are only a few of these techniques.

Furthermore, it is due to Swami Satyananda and Swami Niranjanananda, his successor, that today an extensive literary work is available. The publications introduce original and traditional knowledge in a modern and easy accessible way. The books published by the Yoga Publications Trust are also used for courses and trainings by many other yoga traditions.

Integral Yoga

SATYANANDA YOGA® moves the individual as a multi-layered entity into the centre of attention and does not only focus on the physical aspects. In order to address the whole personality of the individual and to integrate yoga into all areas of daily life, Satyananda Yoga combines the different yoga paths (hatha yoga, karma yoga, bhakti yoga, etc.) into a holistic yoga system.

During a yoga class there is always an integration of different techniques. Asanas build a bridge between the physical and mental plane which brings about a state of balance. Pranayamas increase and stabilize vital energy (prana/chi), whereas Satyananda Yoga Nidra® (deep relaxation) and meditation calm and focus the mind.

The practitioner is encouraged to train his awareness further and to become aware of the different aspects of his personality. As a result of continuous training a process of inner development ensues.
